There are a number of different parts involved with the braking system in your Toyota. The genuine brake pads are designed to grip the brake disc or rotor using calipers. The brake pads will need to be replaced periodically as they will wear down over time. Failure to replace the brake pads can lead to having to replace the brake rotors and other components as well. Often, you will know when it's time to replace brake pads because of the squealing that you will hear as a result of the friction of the brakes. As far as symptoms of wear and tear on other brake parts, you might notice it taking a longer time to come to a stop or hear loud noises coming from them.
